A course qualifies a ROLE: screening officer, supervisor, national inspector, instructor. It ends with an assessment and awards an ICAO certificate, recognised internationally.

ICAO Aviation Security Training Packages (ASTPs)
To support States in building the skills required to apply international requirements effectively, ICAO develops and updates specialised Aviation Security Training Packages (ASTPs).
These training programmes follow a competency-based approach and address the various levels of responsibility involved in managing and implementing aviation security.
They cover in particular:
- Basic training for civil aviation security staff
- Training for national civil aviation security instructors
- Training for airport security supervisors
- Air cargo and mail security
- Training for national civil aviation security inspectors
- Training for civil aviation security managers
- Behaviour detection
These courses give participants the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to implement preventive measures, carry out quality control activities, conduct inspections, manage security programmes and build national training capacity, in line with the requirements of Annex 17 and ICAO guidance.
