Objective

The Safety Management System (SMS) is ICAO’s proactive approach to identifying and controlling risk. This course covers the four SMS components and their implementation within an aviation organisation.

Learning objectives

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • explain ICAO’s SMS framework (Annex 19);
  • identify hazards and assess safety risks;
  • develop a safety policy and objectives;
  • define safety performance indicators (SPIs);
  • promote a positive safety culture.

Target audience

Safety managers, executives and operational staff of authorities, airports and airlines.

Prerequisites

Operational experience in civil aviation.
